Need to boost Your Creativity? Try Using the Color of The Year

Hello everyone and I hope you all are enjoying the holiday season so far.  It's Lorell here, and I don't know about the rest of you, but after awhile of making special treats, sending our Christmas cards, wrapping presents, and all the rest, I tend to feel depleted when it comes to creativity.  I often want to sit down and craft, but come up short when I need ideas.

I've noticed all the hype lately about Pantone's color of the year --- and the shade for 2015 is Marsala.  It's a beautiful rich burgundy-toned shade, and we will see this hue everywhere, from home decor, furnishings, clothing stores, and even in cosmetic lines.  I decided it would be fun to use Marsala as inspiration in some of my scrapbooking and crafting projects this year, but felt a little stuck as to how to go about it.

About a year ago, I started making mood boards on Pinterest.  This idea has been around for awhile now, but I still find it very useful.  Mood boards to me, are in essence, a place to gather real world examples of a feeling, mood, color, decorating scheme, etc., so I can see how others are using a theme or idea.  So if I feel stuck, but really like an idea, I might start a mood board, which is what I did for the color Marsala.  So for example, you can see a snippet of what I've got so far --- there are clothing, floral, wedding, home decor, color combos, make up products, and edible examples of ways to use Marsala with other colors.  All of these images I either found from searching "marsala pantone" on Pinterest, or from Google searches:

There is something about looking at a grouped set of themed objects that allows one's mind to focus and glean its own ideas, and that's what I really love about mood boards.  If I feel blocked, the walls that were preventing those creative juices from flowing come down.  There were two images that I focused on from this grouping, and after looking at them, I had an idea in mind:

I decided to use a pink color, which I referenced from the photo of the flower arrangement, as well as the lighter green and and the marsala color from the table setting photo.  I went through my stash and found some goodies that fit the bill, and used them to make the card below:

Here are the items I used from Celeste's kits to create this card:

Red patterned paper from the Cozy Little Christmas Patterned Papers
Green Solid from the Cozy Little Christmas Solids
-Pink Solid paper from Give Thanks Solids
-Ampersand heart element from the Hello Love Chalkboard Elements
-Banner Element from Chalkboard Elements
-Stitching is from the Sunshine Elements pack
-Heart Brads from the Honeysuckle Full Kit

The traditional supplies I used were cream cardstock, a bit of twine, some rhinestones, and a little Ranger Glossy Accents on the heart elements.

I hope this helps all of you getting your crafting for 2015 off to a running start, and here's to a great new year!
